Step Brothers…..oh my..
Ok…so went to see the movie Step Brothers the other night. Now…this movie is rated ‘R’, I’m making a point of saying this for a reason. The movie is about a man and woman who meet, fall in love, realize that they each have a son pushing 40 who lives at home…and they get married….aaawwwww how sweet. And you know it’s going to be an “interesting” movie when it has Will Ferrell in it. Oh..and you also know it’s going to be a bit cheesy…but good for a laugh if you need one.
Now, I’m not going to go into detail and tell you about the whole movie….but I gotta hit on a few parts. FIRST however……
What is in the heads of some parents!!! Remember how I said that it was rated ‘R’…so um not meant for those little eyes under 17 years of age. Usually a movies is rated ‘R’ and not PG-13 for a reason. So I was a bit surprised when we’re sitting there in the theater and this woman walks in with 2 kids between 8 and 10 years old…and she sits down up close and in the center with the kids. Then another woman walks in with a kid who was about 12 years old…. THEN a couple with 2 kids who were around 6 and 9 years old. I just sat there and laughed to myself….why? Well…because I had heard in advance a bit about this movie, and had to wonder if these parents would make it through the whole movie or not.
So, the two now step brothers meet and right away you are amused because for 2 men who are supposed to be close to 40 years old, they act like obnoxious teenagers. Some people are going to be seriously offended when they see this movie, others are going to laugh until they pee their pants. I was in the middle…ok…closer to the pee your pants side, but I get a sick little kick out of twisted movies like this one. The language in this movie is really crude at times, yet you just can’t help but laugh at it. After the first few really crude sexual jokes the parent sitting behind us found their brain, and left the theater with their kid. Sorry…but I have to give a wee little spoiler, and please…do pardon the ‘crudeness’ of what I am about to say…I am saying it exactly as the phrase was used in the movie (in other words…get a clue from this and don’t take young kids to see this movie)…ok…here’s the “spoiler”…Dale (played by John C. Reilly) gets a bit angry with his new stepbrother Brennan (played by Will Ferrell) who he suspects has played with his drum set …which he had clearly told him NOT to touch. They get into a fight…and Brennan threatens to rub his “ball sack” on the drum set….AND….when you see Will Ferrell whip out this part of his anatomy and they give you the full visual of it and on the drum set…..WHOOOOPS the parents with the 2 really young kids get a clue and decide they have had enough and get up and leave. OHHH…the other brother (Derek – played by Adam Scott)…the young one…no joke..this is a guy I would hate the minute he walked into the room….just felt like adding that.
That last parent…the first one into the theater with the two kids around 8 to 10 years old…she stuck it out and
