‘Tis the Season….

Here we are in the time of the year that you either love, hate or could really care less about. Me….when I was little I loved it. Fall has always been my favorite time of the year, well except for all the rain we get here in the lovely Seattle, Washington area. It is so green here during the summer months and you don’t really notice that a lot of the trees you are looking at are not evergreens…when you look at the mountains…all the trees look the same. Big, tall, and an evergreen pine version of a tree. Then Fall hits…and you get to a point where you look at those same hills again and you see the big evergreen trees that you can count on the stay that deep beautiful green all year long…but mixed in with it now you see trees that have leaves which are turning beautiful shades of red, orange and yellow. It’s really beautiful here in the fall. Then sadly those trees eventually loose their leaves as it gets colder and colder…and you now have brown twiggy things mixed in with the big evergreens. Oh well…just like Angelina Jolie….it was gorgeous while it lasted…but all outer beauty fades away at some point. Sorry Angelina…but the truth sucks…of course you have enough money to prolong the inevitable I’m sure. And my smart ass little comment leads me into what then starts to hit you this time of the year. At least, that is, in the good ole’ USA…

Ah…the season of Christmas. Like I said…as a little kid I loved it. I mean..hello…what kid who’s family celebrates Christmas doesn’t love it??? You get a load of gifts from everyone in your family and you love them….and then….2 weeks later you get the ‘are there any more new things to play with’ blues…lol. Just kidding..sort of.

Don’t get me wrong I don’t hate the Christmas season….funny…does that’s what everyone around here calls it “Christmas Season”. So does that mean we now have Spring, Summer, Fall and Christmas? What happend to Winter? Sorry Winter…not so screw you or anything but Christmas has taken your place. So what happens at this time of the year? I’ll tell you exactly what happens…people turn into these pyscho lunatic freaks. The shopping malls become a sea of bodies looking for the perfect gift for someone. Funny thing…the day after Christmas those same people will be out returing the gift you spend hours trying to find for them. Why? Simple…because you thought it was the perfect thing…and they didn’t. Really makes you want to go shopping for a gift now doesn’t it…sorry for the reality check.

Since I don’t want to sound like I hate this holiday season I’ll stop with the reality check thoughts. Consider it my gift to you. ;) See, I’m a very thoughtful person…lol. What kind of gifts do I personally like? The ones that someone has put thought into. I don’t care if it’s a CD that you’ve made for me of music that you know I really love and would enjoy listening to….or a card that you’ve written your heartfelt thoughts in….I know…I’m easy to please and cheap to get a gift for too by the way. In my life the gifts that have meant the most to me are the ones that I know the person actually thought I would like…because they felt what they were getting was “me”. What have I not really cared for? Simple…when I’ve had to write down not only ideas of what I’d like..but exactly where to get it and how much it is. Or worse…when I’ve been told “you know that’s what you’re getting so if you want to go ahead and pick it up while your out go ahead”. No, I’m not kidding. I’m very serious. But the mean side of me comes out with that one…because while I’m out picking up my gift…my head says “what the hell..i like that too”. LOL, now you know exactly what NOT to do when buying me a gift. Even a gift card to me means you put the thought into where to get the card from, and you went and bought it!!!!! In other words, you took some time to think for yourself. I’m going into this for any of those idiots out there who pull this crap, here’s a hint for you…the person you do this too…would probably appreciate you being thoughtful once in a while…pretend like you actually know them a little. Get them something small from your heart along with whatever they had on their list…SURPRISE THEM!!!!! Now if you getting something for someone ungrateful who doesn’t appreciate having thought put into the gift…then screw them….send it to me..I’ll think your a doll for it. LOL.

So what about those who don’t celebrate Christmas? Well…..most religions and cultures seem to celebrate something at this time of the year…so most likely they are dealing with the same BS as the rest of the world. And those who don’t celebrate anything at this time of the year….well, I’m pretty sure they sit back and laugh at the rest of us.

This part that I find sick and twisted is that Christmas is the time of year that Christians are supposed to be celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ. I know, I know…the Wise Men brought him gifts and that’s why we do the gift thing…blah blah blah….but maybe this Christmas…in addition to buying all those gifts for the people you know…..do something a little extra. Here in the USA most shopping malls have a giving tree where you can get a gift tag with an item on it that a child would like. These are kids who are either homeless, or who are in foster care because their parents are screwed up, etc….or the family is just struggling so badly that they really don’t have the money to get something for their little kids. There are also places that do giving trees for women and their children who are in battered women’s shelters, these are women who are trying so hard to do the right thing and care for their children and get them out of a dangerous situation. There are many places and ways to give. And you know what….those people won’t be returning your gift the next day…because it might be the only thing they get and they will appreciate that someone thought of them when no one else was. Don’t know where to donate something or what to donate? Simple…even something small, doesn’t have to be expensive…..if you are in the USA…take it to your local fire station…most of them collect toys for children. Toys For Tots..is done by the US Marines. I mean….go spend $5 and buy a few Hot Wheels, or a Polly Pocket doll…better yet…spend $10 and buy both. Some little kid out there that you will never meet will feel special because someone thought of them. Trust me, do it.
